Storage capacity is decent, too. You can fit a helmet and bulky jacket under the seat quite comfortably. It’s also a great place to chuck all of those awkward bits and pieces you struggle to carry on a bike. There’s even a small, lockable glovebox with a handy 12v socket inside, so you can power a satnav or charge your mobile, but the best part of the MS3 is its lively engine.

Both 125 and 250cc machines are pretty fast. Powered by a single cylinder, liquid cooled four-stroke motor, the 250 is quick enough to letyou have some fun and produces a claimed 24.7bhp. It pulls well from a standing start – you can expect to see over 90mph on the clock and it’ll get there quite rapidly as well, considering its size.

The auto transmission means you’ll always be at the optimum revs and there’s plenty of mid-range power to play with. It’s quite impressive and, more importantly, great fun to ride. The learner-legal version may not be quite as fast as its quarter-litre stablemate, but it will still pull well once it gets going and has a decent presence on the road, so it can stop leamers feeling as vulnerable as they might do on a smaller-looking scooter.

Overall, both Hyosung scooters ride well, look good and are a fresh alternative to the usual Japanese, Italian and Chinese offerings.
